The religion Islam is the 2nd most popular religion in the world. The first is Christianity(33%), and then is Islam(20%). They currently have 1,215million members and the number of members are growing. Islam has two groups of people which are the Sunni and Shiite. They decided to break into two groups because they got in a fight about who should be the leader after Prophet Muhammad died. The Sunnis believed that it didn't have to be Muhammad's family members just someone that's capable of being a leader but the Shiite disagreed and thought that Muhammad's family members should be the leader. This fight or tension is still going on today. Most of the Muslims were on the side of Sunni so Sunnis take up 90% and the Shiite takes up 10%. As you can see in the map above, there's more light green colored places than the dark green. The light green represent the number of Sunnis and the dark green represents the number of Shiites. There's approximately 900,000,000 numbers of adherents of Sunnis around the world. Countries that have more than 80% of Sunni are Afghanistan, Algeria, Comoros, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Maldives, Somalia, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan. Since there's only 10% of Shiites all over the world, there's not a single country that has no more than 70% of Shiites in their country, usually they only have around 10% of Shiites in their countries. Those countries with at least 20% of Shiite includes Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Pakistan, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Today, Shiites tend to live in places that are very dangerous like Yemen.
